FAQ
General
What is
.Songs?
.Songs (pronounced "dotsongs") is a bold new initiative set up by music industry and IT professionals with a combined 40 years of experience within the music industry. Our vision is to revolutionize the online ‘professional song placement’ market, focussing primarily on placing previously unreleased or limited-release songs with recording artists worldwide.
At
which stage is the project now and when will your service be launched?
Please visit our Pilot Program page for more info.
How much will it cost?
Exact pricing details will be published closer to our official launching date. Remember to leave your details today to enjoy a long free ride as a participant of our Pilot Program!
Will .Songs
feature or promote independent/unsigned artists?
Not at the moment.
Although we realize that many songwriters are artists themselves, .Songs
is a professional song placement service which primarily focusses on placing unreleased or limited-release songs with artists worldwide.

Providers
What are
the minimum requirements to be a .Song Provider for the Pilot Program?
Most music publishers and professional
songwriters/producers will be eligible to include their music onto .Songs. If you
are a professional songwriter and are currently in a publishing deal,
please consult them beforehand. Qualifying songs can be of any genre, should be of a high production standard, and should at least have one writer who is a member of a collection society, such as ASCAP, BMI, MCPS/PRS or any foreign equivalent.
Which style of songs
is most suited for the Pilot Program?
We strongly
welcome a wide variety of musical genres as this will create a more interesting and diverse community. The songs do not have to be of "master"
quality, but need to be well produced with good
sound quality.
How do we supply songs?
Within the next few weeks, we will be offering a simple upload application which will allow for easy uploading of your catalog. Further details will be posted in due course. Please leave your details here to be kept updated automatically. If you are a major content producer with a catalog larger than 200 songs, we have a separate process to join the Pilot Program.
Is there a maximum number of songs our company can provide?
No. There is no limit on the number of songs you can upload.
Will it
be secure?
.Songs is accessable to professional members of the music industry only. Additionally, no music is downloadable without prior consent
of the rights holder(s). We will also always keep track of who listened to which song and when. Obviously, we keep this information strictly confidential and would only use it in extraordinary cases, such as a legal dispute or a court case.
Do I retain my copyrights?
Absolutely!
Will
our company know which of our songs were listened to?
.Songs will keep track of all these type of statistics. However,
we cannot disclose 'who' actually listened to them for confidential
reasons. .Songs members will be able to see their statistics
online though.
I am a professional
songwriter/producer and have worked with a wide spectrum of established
artists worldwide. Do I need .Songs?
Record labels, music publishers, songwriters, producers, big, small, established
or just starting off, will together make .Songs an invaluable resource and fascinating place to hang out. There are plenty of amazing features we will be launching in the near future and we certainly don't want you to miss out on them!
We
are a Production Library company. Will .Songs also list our production music?
Not at the moment. The
music on .Songs is specifically targeted at
recording artists. Pitching production/library music for TV shows, films,
adverts or similar is an entirely different kettle of fish. However, the .Songs
team might be launching a separate service for this in the future. Please keep checking back.
